01 Glossary

A shared language for proof.

Twenty-five terms for building, checking and sharing analytics. Precise meanings, with their boundaries intact.

A

ACK

Hosted's signed acknowledgement of an accepted attestation, bound to the envelope and its hosted scope/sequence.

Attestation

A signed, closed projection of a local qualification claim, with bounded metadata and keyed commitments rather than business values.

B

Bronze

The captured landing layer, bound to a declared batch and source observation.

C

Conformed dimension

A dimension whose agreed keys and definitions support consistent use across business processes, with explicit physical/logical bindings.

D

DAX

Power BI's expression/query language used here for measure probes, permanent semantic tests and checked visual projections.

Direct Lake

The documented semantic serving path over Fabric data, with framing/publication and value checks separate from generation.

E

Ed25519

The public-key signature algorithm used to authenticate local signed subjects, exported attestations and Hosted acknowledgements under separate trust.

Evidence binding

A digest/signature/context relationship connecting a claim to the bytes, versions and dependencies it actually used.

Expectation epoch

An explicit retained version of scoped expectations and their evidence bindings, allowing controlled history rather than silent replacement.

G

Gold

The ratified business-facing dimensional structures reconciled to independent expectations.

See alsoGrainOracle
Grain

The business meaning of one fact row, which requires human ratification before authoritative model compilation.

M

Medallion

The Bronze, Silver and Gold layering of captured source data, prepared data and model-ready business structures.

O

Oracle

An independently established source expectation used to judge downstream actuals; it is not the output being tested or an agent's opinion.

P

PBIP

A file-based Power BI Project workspace containing report and semantic-model artifacts; this workflow does not accept a legacy PBIX as equivalent.

See alsoPBIRTMDL
PBIR

The report-definition format emitted and inspected for pages, visuals, model bindings and geometry.

Q

Qualification

A result for declared checks, scope and current evidence, distinct from business acceptance or universal correctness.

R

Receipt

A create-only local ledger record binding a producer result to declared inputs, outputs and upstream evidence; it may contain private values.

RLS / OLS

Row-level and object-level access restrictions; Hosted tenant RLS and customer semantic-model RLS/OLS are different enforcement boundaries.

S

Scenario catalogue

The named requirements/checks defining the qualification scope to freeze and evaluate.

Semantic model

The serving model of tables, relationships and measures used by Power BI, generated/deployed and qualified through separate steps.

Silver

The typed, deduplicated/prepared layer, with accounting and quarantine observations rather than silently dropped rows.

See alsoBronzeGold
Staleness

Loss of current evidence binding after an observed input, output/version or upstream dependency change.

Star schema

A dimensional model connecting facts at a defined grain with descriptive dimensions.

Step result

A producer's structured operation outcome and checks, which the ledger validates before recording a receipt.

T

TMDL

The text representation of semantic-model definitions inspected and generated by the local tools.
